PHAROS4MPAs will attend a round table on 6 September, ahead of the official signing of the charter of ecoresponsibility for maritime transport activity.
La Méridionale (French shipping company) and the Agence Française pour la Biodiversité (AFB) have invited PHAROS4MPAs to a round table on 6 September in Marseille, ahead of the official signing of the charter of ecoresponsibility for maritime transport activity between La Méridionale and French MPAs (Calanques National Park, Port-Cros National Park and the Natural Marine Park of Cap Corse and Agriate) from the Mediterranean network of marine protected areas.
This charter is part of a global approach to ecoresponsibility in the maritime transport sector. The purpose of this document is to formalize commitments between La Méridionale and the Mediterranean MPA network. The Charter's objectives include:
- Continue to reduce the environmental footprint of activities in or near MPAs
- Reduce impacts on and risks to habitats and heritage species
- Contribute to the improvement of knowledge through participatory science.
PHAROS4MPAs will co-sign the charter and make sure that this initial step towards more sustainable maritime transport activity is used as a case study for the global recommendations of the project.
